On Cloud Nine

The landscape belongs to the person who looks at it.

Rest is not idleness
and to lie sometimes on the grass
under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky
is by no means a waste of time.

The Royal Wedding

Like everyone else around the globe, I too was keenly watching the wedding ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton.Though I wasn't one of  the privileged , to get a good  view from anywhere near the palace or the church, I was indeed quite happy that I was able to watch without a glitch, within close quarters in the comfort of my home. And I took some pictures with my digital camera  for my scrapbook .With  a  great sense of enthusiasm and contentment for  this young Royal couple,  I was celebrating the function with the rest of the world.

May the couple have a blissful wedded life!

Refreshing Lush Greenery

To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon the verdant green hills is the most perfect refreshment.

Teaching Language

I am a mother who loves reading and writing besides the routine culinary.I love scribbling little notes,in verse form to teach my children different aspects through this mode. Children play a vital role in our society and they are a precious asset to  family. I started reading poems, written by other poets, to my four young children to help them get motivated to read and write. I find poems-employing simple and uncomplicated expressions-make it easier for children to grasp the meaning. Thus I write little verses, using simple vocabulary, to a very limited audience, my children. I wrote this poem Autumn ( I consider this as poetry, perhaps you may disagree) using descriptive expressions to describe the essence of autumn. My children can now imagine autumn and picture it vividly, though they have never seen it in real life. Over this part of the world ,leaves are green or brown, dried and withered .And there are no red leaves during fall. And we have never actually seen a red Autumn leaf. So I like to compare Children to Autumn leaves , happy, vibrant and carefree. They remain golden.
I started to write little notes on everything personal and consequently it became  my  hobby. Writing little notes  does not necessarily mean I use rich vocabulary because  I pen these  for my special ‘little’ people, with an intention to get them absorbed in whatever they read.By writing in simple language will help them grasp and learn to understand language right from the beginning. Language is easily grasped when perceived through their tiny minds. Rather than an adult reading it to them and explaining the meaning, according to the adult’s perception.

Garden Fountain

Most people welcome a change in weather, if they previously  experienced a harsh weather condition. They eagerly anticipate a gentle season like spring or a   considerate summer, where they can host or engage in a lot of outdoor activities. Spring is attached to gardening too. Garden enthusiasts  embrace the  cool warmth of  this new season with a great sense of contentment .This is the time they grow new plants and  look forward to the new blossoms and the lush greenery that sprouts around their surroundings .And what better way to relax and chill around in the garden with the soft soothing sound of  running water  cascading from the garden fountain.

Spring Cleaning

I suppose  I should still continue recounting  our Spring break activities. It took me by surprise when I found my oldest daughter, who just finished her class 12th Board exams, had  finally decided to do a  complete and a thorough cleaning of her room. During her exams ,she had all her subject pass  papers and books strewn all over, and wouldn’t let me clean her room  or for that matter  touch anything there.  The book shelf ,where she kept her favourite  fictions, was in a total mess. I constantly kept reminding her about the untidiness and all I got was ‘Don’t worry Mom, I ‘m going to clean it soon’.Eventually I gave up niggling her and decided to wait till her exams were over. The other day ,it took me a while to gather my patience and to see for myself why my other children  were  making a big noise , which was more like ‘delightful scream’s .Wondering  what  the whole clamor  was about ,I entered my daughter's room .Wasn’t I surprised! . I was so glad ,  she had beyond doubt kept her promise .The earlier unkempt room was  now spotless and neat. She had even hung up a hand-made frame ,with my favourite poem  on it .And that made me smile!

Sweet Serenity

Surely there is something in the unruffled calm of nature that overawes our little anxieties and doubts; the sight of the deep-blue sky and the clustering stars above seems to impart a quiet to the mind.

A Constructive Spring Break

My children were on Spring break recently and I was wondering how I was going to keep them occupied during this period. As my husband and I didn’t want them to be glued to the television or on the computer ,we decided to focus their attention towards some other activities. We then decided to get them some do-it-yourself art and craft books. It was indeed a wise decision.Three of my children collaborated.,While the older daughter supervised ,the younger sons ,effortlessly put together some interesting artwork, ofcourse with the fabulous help of the craft guide books. This was actually not an expensive project. We  only had  to purchase the guide book and the rest of the materials used were recycled stuff, that we found by rummaging the cupboards. They indeed had a constructive Spring break. Thus put my mind at ease.

Taking Pictures With A Digital Camera

The pictures that I upload in my blog are taken with a digital camera. My Husband bought our  digital camera way  back in 2004. But I was not eager to learn anything about it,as I knew I could  totally depend on hubby to be the photographer on important occasions. It was only  when I started to blog that I began to  develop a  great sense of enthusiasm to learn how to handle the gizmo. I love taking pictures at random.Very recently I have taken a keen interest in  taking photographs of the special dishes I make at home. Having a digital camera is very handy. It’s so  convenient to upload the pictures from the digital camera into my computer and  use the pictures for my blogging purposes. Now that I have learnt the tactics on how to operate the camera, it’s so funny when I focus it on my children and click pictures off guard.

Lending A Hand

These are my two super heroes trying to attach the paintings onto the wall. They tried to get  it  affixed in an easier and faster way. With gum, tape and what not. After a number of failed attempts, they decided to entrust the job into the hands of an  expert, the Dad, who got the pictures drilled instantly .

Best Remedy

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.

Training Elephants

Elephants in Sri Lanka  that are abandoned  by their herd or those that have been attacked and wounded by the local farmers ,a retribution ,for destroying their crops, are taken into an Elephant orphanage and are well taken care of, by the local authorities..We had the opportunity to see these elephants at this orphanage  during our visit  last summer. The home to these elephants, is placed in a sprawling and vast area ,so that they would not at all miss their natural habitat. It was a wonderful experience for all of us to see in reality these wild animals being transformed  tamed and  disciplined .
Look who is eating all the greens!

At play - during bath –time

To be fit and in shape-taking a walk

Thought For The Day...

The Pipe Piper asked for a hefty  price for a job he was entrusted ..but when they failed to pay the promised amount , he turned nasty and set another  tune on his flute  to get rid of all the children of Hamlin. It’s really a sad state that even to date ,We have people in our midst just like the Pipe Piper, who would  easily become mean and  vicious if we didn’t dance to their tune…

Camera Shy Monkey

Monkeys are very energetic, clever and a lot like us, the humans. Baby monkeys are very affectionate, but in the adult phase, they may in fact could show aggression with the slightest provocation. How so much they seem friendly, remember they are wild animals. So take care when you approach one.We spotted this shy little monkey in the vicinity of the hotel we were staying  during our last vacation. At the beginning he seemed unenthusiastic to come out of his hiding place, but when my children teased him with some food .He willingly stepped out. And thus availed me the  opportunity to capture this picture.

She Comes With A Bagful Of Golden Coins

Santa and the Tooth Fairy may be poles apart but these are two invented personalities that children all over the world wait to meet.Like  with Santa, to whom the children write letters to get them their favourite toys for Christmas, Children believe that  the Tooth Fairy compensates them  with money for their   broken milk tooth  left  under their pillows .This belief has been passed down from generations and many interesting episodes have thus been  instigated .My children, all four of them,   passed through this stage waiting for the Tooth Fairy and her bag of golden coins. Now that  two of them  are  older ,they have a hearty laugh whenever they are reminded but never fail to  convince their younger siblings to get ready do the honors, of welcoming the Tooth Fairy, whenever they have a broken milk tooth. Here are some funny cartoons related to the Tooth Fairy.

Just Pondering Over The Wonders

The world we live is a beautiful creation of God.It is flawlessly aligned and rotates according to the will of it's master. However, periodically  nature too, fails to follow it’s pattern and collapses somewhere on the line-An earthquake in one part, cyclone in another and floods and hurricanes and so on.
'God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain. But he did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way.'

Spicy Wall Hanger

The other day when when we were in the mall , we came across a discount sign in one of the handicrafts shops.Just out of curiosity,I suggested to my husband that  I wanted to have a quick peek at those stuff displayed there.I promised myself, that it was only going to be a quick  sight seeing. However,  when I entered the place,I knew that it was going to be difficult to come off in haste. There were so much of lovely crafts displayed .In the midst of those beautiful collection, one particular wall hanging caught my attention.I was intensely  impressed with that particular one  and wanted it right away.It was very unusual for a wall hanging. The spices in it really tempted me even more.I wanted it badly and looked at my husband for approval.Within a matter of minutes it was  neatly wrapped and handed over  to me by the shop keeper. Now it hangs in  the  kitchen wall.

Cyber Etiquette

With the advent of the email system, sending mails to friends and family have got very much easier. However there are certain kind of messages one must not send on emails. It doesn't necessarily mean that every email  forwards  you get, how so much impressive or  inspiring it may seem to you, that you too should forward it  to everyone on your contact list. Despite the fact that it may sound perfect to you ,the person at the other end may get offended and your inbox will get discontented responses. It's an unpleasant idea to forward someone with mail that is not significant or if know your friend is least interested in that sort of mails. Email chain letters started as paper letters. Those days we never sent back those paper letters ,which we received  via snail mail  to eight people  or so,to get good fortune. We simply threw them into the bin .Similarly don’t press the forward button when a striking  or exciting mail sits in your inbox .Just push the delete button and let it go into the thrash where it belongs.

Spring is sooner recognized by plants than by men.  ~Chinese Proverb

Springtime has approached and everyone's  excited about it.This is the most favourable season of the year. .The weather is so cool and pleasant. Even the  domestic  tasks are  being done in a very relaxed manner because of the cool atmosphere around. As a busy mom, round the clock, l like doing additional household chores especially during this  time of the year  as I feel so calm and stress free .
Spring is always associated with flowers and buds, plants and trees , birds and the bees . What I like most about Spring is it's  pleasing climatic conditions Somedays we  may get a light shower and at other times , a  warm  breezy afternoon. The only negative thing  about this season is , it  comes with an extra baggage , a bagful of sicknesses.

Who Is Smarter?

Eleven people were hanging on a rope, under a helicopter.
10 men and 1 woman.
The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave,
Because otherwise they were all going to fall.
They weren't able to choose that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech.
She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.
As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping . . .... . . .

'Once in a way you come across an email  forward that has some interesting facts  and you would want to read them repeatedly. And I  would n't mind wasting a few minutes going through such chain letters .I got the above recently and after reading it, got me thinking that it was fair enough ,once in a way, for women to outwit the Men.  This  contemplates the smartness of a woman.I  couldn’t resist  sharing  this with all the women bloggers But it's no problem  if the men also  wanted  to read..I couldn’t help bursting into fits of laughter after reading this.Hope you enjoyed , as much as I did !'

Look Who's My Best Friend

Do you have a precinct in your home , you call it your own. A place you  run to, whenever  you feel like you have to get away from the anxiety that is mounting  in you. Or do you have a special something , like a friend  you trust and lean on to. I do.I run to this confidential area, whenever I want to express my endless thoughts, narrate tid bits  that had taken place during the course of the day or simply want to share my feelings. On many occasions I have shared with this confidant, my joys and my sorrows.,my laughter and my tears. With my confidant I can rant, rave  and be angry. At times, I even shred into pieces   some of her softness .Yet  she stays humbled  at all times. Am I not glad I have someone like her to trust and pour my heart out.

Home Cooked Delicacies

I love to cook. And I cook most of the week.  This is what I do , as a  housewife and a stay- at- home- mom. That’s my mode. Since I am at home most of the time ,I like to try out different recipes,to satisfy the taste buds of my family. As Asians from the sub continent ,we love eating home cooked meals. A typical breakfast for my daughters, hubby and I, during the weekend, would be toast bread ,omelettes with a lot of onions, chilly flakes and tomatoes. The sons prefer to eat “French toast’. For the Mid day meal, I make white or yellow rice,( good when eaten piping hot), A chicken or lamb curry, curried vegetables, whatever I can find in the refrigerater. And a lot of  salad. Before preparing dinner, I usually  ask my children what they’d like to eat and typical of them to come out with a variety. But by that time I am so exhausted that I tell my husband to bring some ‘Take away”.Yet at other times, for dinner, we buy the Arabian Flat bread and eat with some home cooked chicken curry. Having said that, I love to make  delicious food for my guests too, especially during festive season. I try to make my most specialty dishes and let them savour the goodness of my home food.. And with all this, how do you think I manage time ? Don’t  ask me Please!  I somehow   squeeze a little time for myself too.

Technology Comes Between Friends

Gone are the days..When anything was said , nothing was misunderstood..Friends shared great days together, laughed and wiped each others tears.During the  bygone adolescent years , when one hurt each other, it was  forgotten the next minute and they wrote endless apology notes to be friends all over again..But now with  technology available at the tip of your fingers, more enemies are being created with the push of a button. Everyone   and everything  seems to be in  disorder. With the texting and messaging system everyone seems to have been caught into some kind of a tangled web..You text something across to friends  ,maybe a self-improvement message that you also got via text message. Lo and behold !you are misinterpreted. And  imagine! the friend you forward it too, will never again answer your calls or your texts messages. I wonder what happened to the phrasing ‘Friends are the most prized possessions’. Lets  Learn to communicate more  effectively in person, so  there  will be no more misunderstandings between friends.

Back To School

The school’s  new academic year   started today. The children happily went to school with new books and bags.I am sure up to the first week ,they will write neatly and keep the books in good condition. Thereafter, there’s going to be scribbles and ink blots all over the pages and the covers. We had purchased the books for their  new classes a week ago and I was very busy wrapping the books in brown paper. This is a rule we got to abide. All the text books and the note books should be neatly covered in brown wrapping paper before sending it to school.I was  fascinated with the books and was a bit hesitant to hide the beautiful designs and pictures illustrated in  some of the books with brown wrapping paper.I thought they didn’t need any wrapping as  they looked too good with the designs embedded on the books itself and by covering, the beauty of the picture is completely lost.
