Food For Thought

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.
Kindness is like sugar, It makes life taste a little sweeter.
Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring and integrity they think of you.

How We spent Our Spare Time In Our Days

Growing up in the 70s and 80s ,we found many  ways to keep ourselves occupied during our spare time.Every opportunity we got , we would spend our time outdoors even if it was just a walk around the garden.Always in anticipation for  some exciting things to happen, friends and neighbours would gather at a particular spot to discuss the days events. We even  loved playing marbles  outdoors. We loved to  skip rope, where  each end of the rope would be  held by two others, who would be counting 1…2…3 till they ran out of breathe. If we didn’t have anything to do ,as mischievous as we were, we would be  chasing the cat around the house..We would wait for the rain to fall, to make paperboats and let them sail through the garden drains. How much are the present generation  missing? Most of them today ,don’t make use of their spare time for something constructive. They are always couped up in the room with their soul mate –the computer. They are much happier playing online games and meeting virtual friends.Even my children prefer to play a lot of indoor games but  we try to take them for outdoor activities as much as possible. What a lot of interesting  outdoor activities the present age children are missing..

Chocolate -A Stimulant

I was reading an interesting book on ‘How to control your moods with food, when I came across an unbelievable fact regarding chocolates.Chocolates which is loved by both the young and the old is actually considered a drug. Centuries ago people had actually used it as a stimulant .And also when someone is experiencing a sad period after a breakup of a relationship, they go binging on chocolates. An increased ingestion of phenylalanine( chocolate contains this) may aggravate higher brain levels of endorphins and therefore  shrink the  feeling of pain. And  that may be the  reason that phenylalanine could be used as a type of natural painkiller or antidepressant. Consequently chocolate may be considered a drug and like all drugs can  establish ‘addiction’ if taken too often. And mount to depression of withdrawal when it is not available.
Here is an interesting piece of information from the book itself ’Chocolates can be a powerful stimulant probably because the brain uses one of its chemicals, phenylalanine,to manufacture norepinephrine. So pleasant is the stimulation from chocolate that some people become addicted to it like a drug.Centuries ago,the Spanish government, under pressure from the church which disapproved of anyone being sitmulated banned chocolate because it claimed that that it was a drink of the devil’

Friendship And Happiness ....

Happiness means having a great friend and the joy in making them  happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief with a friend is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared with a friend , is doubled.

The Impact Of Mobile Phones

The increased use of mobile phones has brought about serious concern of possible health hazards.
Do you know how serious  your health could be affected by the  impact of cell phone radiation.
Here are some  of the brunt you will have to bear using the mobile phone  for  a  considerate time. Fatigue, headaches, loss of sleep, memory loss, ringing ears and joint pains.

Make use of these  tips which can considerably reduce the radiation and health risks.
Use the phone further away from your body.Using a hand-free set is the easiest way to drastically reduce the amount of radiation you are exposed to when using a mobile phone.
The radiation you are exposed to is directly related to the time you spend talking on the mobile phone. For linger calls it is safer and cheaper to use the landline.

Some places to avoid when using the mobile phone
Don’t use the phone while driving
Don’t use near area with a  lot of  electrical equipment- like hospitals, aircraft
Don’t use with wet hands or while in a shower
Don’t let little children talk for longer periods. They are more vulnerable than adult

Unhealthy Life Style

I read an article sent to me via email that was very disturbing. It’s very alarming to know that we too indulge in these activities probably without knowing the conscequences.Anyway it’s not too late if we revise our life patterns ,once we get to know the severity of it. Liver damage could be also be due to these facts. It is always better if we learn more via reliable sources.

Sleeping too late and waking up too late ,could be the  main causes.
 Not urinating in the morning.
 Too much eating.
 Skipping breakfast.
 Consuming too much medication.
Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food colouring,
 and   artificial sweetener.
Change your life style and avoid doing harm to your liver.

In Order To Change

There are times when  we need to change a process, in order to develop, reform or transform. We sometimes need to change  old habits and old lifestyles. And be  done with past memories .Only when we are unchained from our past completely that we will be in a better position to face the present courageously and look forward to the future with confidence.

Spectacular Traffic

I am talking about the real traffic here.I took these photos from our moving vehicle. These pictures were taken on the highway. The picture above looks very  clear amid the bright lights on the street .Thanks to the traffic that  was moving very slowly.

Now look at this picture. This scene which was naturally created by the street’s bright lights caught the attention of my camera. Everything around seemed invisible. It was simply spectacular.

A Favourite Poem That Motivates Me

This was my father’s favourite and when we were little , my Father used to make us repeat this poem everyday. It was fun actually learning this.We all used to sit in a semi -circle and repeat word after word. He taught us everyday things through activity and in no time we would wait to play this game of ‘repetition’. Now years later I make my children learn poems too. I have this poem neatly handcrafted into a frame and have adorned it in my daughters room. This poem motivates us to approach life positively.

If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win, but think you can’t
It’s almost a cinch you won’t

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost
For out in the mind we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind

If you think you are out classed, you are
You’ve got to think high to rise
You’ve got to be sure of yourself  before
You can ever win a prize

Life’s battle don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

At The Water Park

Recently we took the kids to a water park in Bahrain. The children found it so enjoyable simply splashing and wading in the artificial water bodies. There was this huge playing area covered in water, where the children were able to swing, slide or just wade. An enormous bucket stands right on top of a giant water slide and when the water gets filled, the bucket tilts and pours the water right down to everyone in the playing area. There was so much of laughter, giggles and smiles on the people who experienced this. Luckily I didn’t get wet, I was taking this picture.

Life Is A Matter Of Choice

There comes a point in your life when you realize:
Who matters,
Who never did,
Who won't anymore...
And who always will.

Life is the sum of all your choices.
Never regret what made you smile. Just learn from the tears that followed.

How Rich Is Man's Creation

The shape of a naturally produced fruit ’Watermelon’  is changed artificially by some farmers in Japan, according to an email letter which found it’s way into my inbox. What a marvellous conception ! This new creation requires less  storage space. A round watermelon can take a lot of space in the refrigerator.

Look how smart the Japanese farmers are! They have forced the watermelons to grow into square shape, by placing the melons into square tempered glass cases while the fruit is still growing in the vine.To verify the validity of this story , I checked in with the website, a definitive internet reference, where they  endorsed the story. However other sources state that this cuboid Melon, is considered  expensive and only the wealthy in Japan could afford to relish it. Although that statement sounds ironic, it’s incredible that man comes out with some brilliant ideas and forever motivated  to further enhance the amazing creations of Mother Nature. However, I never had any problem  storing watermelon .My family is large and we consume the fruit in one day..

Tsunami, The Catastrophe

Little children wading and playing
to  the beat of the waters rhythm
Not knowing what lay ahead
All at once,-  a tidal wave
swept them off their tiny feet
hurled them ten metres high.
Snatching them off caring arms,
ruthlessly, tucked them into the seabed.

Little dreams and sandcastles- washed away

In a blind fury,
the sea caused a great catastrophe.
leaving behind utter disarray

And forever the  delightful squeal  is silenced
The only sound that will  haunt  us  now
is the wail of the  grieving
and the distant seagull's cry.

A Fairy Tale

Years ago, as an ardent fan of Lady Diana,I was all excited ,watching her, wed her Prince charming ,which was telecasted in my native country and the world over.People still love and remember her.Growing up, I never gave up my craze of collecting pictures of her and pasting them in my scrapbook. Now years later, as an adult ,I think it’s all right to get carried away by fairy tales, once in a while , to get away from the hassles of this turmoiled world. These are some of my favourite pictures Of Lady Diana, which I digitally created as cards. Thanks to the advent of technology.( click on the picture for a larger version)

Season Of Hope

The tall green blades
And the yellow honeysuckle
The honeydew so succulent,
Joyful blackbird and the bee

The blue ocean flush
The fiery sun beam
And at the still of darkness
The white moon illume
Her radiance

Before The Advent Of The Computer

An application was for employment
A virus was a flu
A program was a TV show
A keyboard was a piano
Memory was something you lost with age
A web was a spider’s home
A cursor used profanity
A mousepad was where the mouse lived
A CD was a bank account
A hard drive was a long trip on the road

Facts Of Life

Life is just like the sea  , without an  end. We are just  sailing through.
Nothing stays with us, what stays with us are the memories of some people who touched us like the  waves.

Do you  know how rich you are?
Aha! You must be already counting the currency ..Well it’s not how much you have in your bank account. It’s  just that  drop of  Tear  that rolls down your face..Count how many hands reach out to WIPE  it - that is  richness.

Never change your individuality for the sake of others.
No one can play your part better than you.
So be yourself, because whatever you are, you  are You and you are simply the best.

Life Is Like Hot Chocolate

Life is like hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups:They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate god  provided us. God makes the hot chocolate, man chooses the cups. The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have.  Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. And enjoy your hot chocolate!!

My Favourite Philosophy

Don’t break a heart, when you don’t know how to fix it.

Marriage is made in heaven, dismantled and made hell on earth.

Love is a narrow word with a broad meaning

The sky changed its' colour
from blue to a smokey gray.
Trees swayed to and fro
to the wind's gentle beat.
Withered leaves fell off
one by one,that piled up,
soft like a cushion.

Birds flew high in plenty,
There was commotion in the air,
It seemed they were going home
to their loved ones,
after a hard day was done.

When darkness crept slowly,
the stars began to twinkle
and the moon peeped in.
I stood in awe,still bemused,
as I watched the heavenly skies
draw the blinds,
for all on earth to sleep.
I couldn't be much happier,
without all of these.

While admiring nature
in her stillness,
I heard the baby coo,
He looked a cute cherub,
in his pyjama blue.
He blinked his sleepy eyes and yawned,
with his tiny mouth opened wide.
As if to say "Goodnight",
With all of his might.
